BETT 2017 preview
It’s almost that time of year again when educationalists and technologists come together to discuss the latest and greatest developments in educational technology. BETT, which runs from 25 – 28 January 2017, aims to “bring together people, ideas, practices and technologies so that educators and learners can fulfil their potential.”

With so many inspiring sessions to attend and innovative technologies to see, it can be difficult to prioritise your visit to ensure you get the most from your time at BETT; that’s why we’ve put together this handy guide to highlight what we believe will be the pick of the bunch from BETT 2017.

Keynote speaker: Sir Ken Robinson Famed for having the most viewed TED talk of all time, Sir Ken Robinson is a real thought leader when it comes to educational policy and best practice. In 2015, Sir Ken Robinson was the keynote speaker, and descriptions of his talk ranged from “One of the best moments at BETT 2015” to “inspirational” and “energised”, so it comes as no surprise to see him receive top billing once again.

At this year’s event, Sir Ken will be tackling the issue of how to transform the nation’s troubled educational system on Friday 27th January at 16.30 – 17.15 in the BETT Arena.

Key theme: Maximising the use of technology in the classroom New technologies are hitting the education market at a phenomenal rate. One of the biggest challenges education professionals experience is knowing which technologies to adopt and how to do so in such a way that avoids creating another white elephant.

At BETT 2017 there are several spots you can drop in on to ensure your technology investment is delivering the best possible results in your classrooms:
The best apps to use with the equipment your school probably already has (primary school sector) 14:45-15:15, Wednesday 25th January 2017, BETT Futures This panel discussion chaired by Greg Hughes, vice-principal: learning technologies & curriculum at The De Ferrers Academy, gives tips on the most useful new apps that teachers can use for saving time on admin, encouraging student collaboration and communicating with parents.

Using Cutting Edge Technology to Drive the Strategic Leadership of Student Behaviour
10:30 – 110:00, Wednesday 25th January 2017, Learn Live: Secondary John Tait, a senior leader and education blogger at Edutait, will be presenting on “how to stop firefighting and adopt a more strategic overview of student behaviour, using technology to analyse classroom, faculty and whole school trends.” If this session is half as interesting as John’s TEDx talk, we’re sure it will be a must-watch session.

Classroom Hardware 2017 Demystifying virtual reality: Exploring VR's potential to transform teaching and learning
10:30 - 11:00, Saturday 28th January 2017, BETT Futures There’s little doubt that the next big thing in consumer technology is virtual reality. Oculus Rift, Playstation VR and Google Daydream are just some of the big names pushing the technology forwards, but how will these technologies be used in the classroom? Attend this session to explore VR's potential to provide immersive learning experiences and give a window into how some schools are using VR now.

Microsoft Learn Live Theatre All week
One of the main attractions at BETT 2016 was the Microsoft Learn Live zone. Last year’s delegates were treated to some amazing sessions, including 1:1 with Surface at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry, Picking the Perfect PC for your Pedagogy! and Making learning come to life with Office 365. Microsoft’s 2017 schedule has yet to be released but we are expecting to see an agenda full of inspiring sessions and, hopefully, get hands-on with the stunning Microsoft Surface Studio and maybe even test the hololens.

XMA Device Lab XMA Stand E205, all week
